From 11 to 13 March 2014, the Rostechnadzor delegation took part in 26th Regulatory Information Conference, organized by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) on the annual basis.

During the International Regulators Q&A Panel Session, Mr. Alexey Ferapontov, the State Secretary — Deputy Chairman, informed on the latest achievements and challenges for Rostechnadzor. He answered the questions of the audience regarding, inter alia, the Rostechnadzor assistance to regulators of countries which construct NPPs of the Russian designs, and the licensing process for Russian small-power and medium-power reactors.

In the frameworks of bilateral meetings Mr.Alexey Ferapontov and Dr. Allison M. Macfarlane, NRC Chairman, and Mr. William C. Ostendorff, NRC Commissioner, exchanged information on the main tasks in the field of safety regulation during construction of new nuclear power units with due attention to national nuclear energy development programs in both Russia and the USA. Also, the parties discussed the status of the draft interagency cooperation agreement and a possibility of collaboration in the area of assistance to third countries in development of safety regulation systems in nuclear energy use.

Along with that, there was a meeting with Jordan Nuclear Regulatory Commission counterparts. The result of that was an agreement to hold a bilateral meeting in Moscow with the view to prepare a draft bilateral cooperation agreement, the signing of which will establish legal framework for assistance to Jordan specialists in development of their own nuclear and radiation safety regulation infrastructure.

In the course of the conference the Rostechnadzor delegation met with Mr. André-Claude Lacoste, the Chair of the 6th Review Meeting of the Contracting Parties under the Convention on Nuclear Safety, and with the delegation of French Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) headed by Philippe Jamet, Commissioner, to update the program for bilateral activities in 2014.
