Rostechnadzor Delegation Meets IAEA DDG Denis Flory
On September 17, 2013, Alexey Ferapontov, Acting Chairman of Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service (Rostechnadzor), had a meeting with Denis Flory, IAEA Deputy Director General.
Opening the meeting, Ferapontov thanked Flory for his decision to have the IRRS follow-up mission conducted in November in Russia.
"I would like to note that we are actively preparing for the follow-up mission with the assistance fr om the IAEA staff. We held a preparatory meeting in August wh ere Rostechnadzor presented results of the implementation of the action plan following the recommendations and suggestions of the 2009 IRRS mission, as well as preliminary results of self-assessment under the modules of emergency preparedness and response, and lessons learnt by a regulatory body from the Fukushima-Daiichi accident," Ferapontov noted in particular.
According to Ferapontov, a tentative agenda of the follow-up mission is currently under preparation.
"Russia continues to implement the Action Programme with the concerned Russian agencies and organizations participating in the implementation of the IAEA Action Plan. Two thirds of the actions have been or being realized," emphasized the acting chairman of Rostechnadzor.
DDG Flory said that the forthcoming follow-up mission would allow discussing the lessons learnt from the Fukushima accident, sharing experience and speaking about the ways of improving transparency and nuclear safety. He expressed his preparedness to continue the cooperation with Rostechnadzor in the field of safety regulation in peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
