Rostechnadzor Delegation's Working Visit to South Africa

During November 26 to December 1, 2013, a Rostechnadzor delegation headed by Acting Chairman Alexey Ferapontov had a working visit to Cape Town, South Africa.

On November 26 and 27, the delegation had a meeting with the management of the National Nuclear Regulator (NNR) of South Africa within the interagency cooperation agreement in the field of nuclear and radiation safety regulation in the peaceful use of atomic energy.

The parties exchanged information on their legislative frameworks, methodologies and practices of supervisory activities. In his address, Alexey Ferapontov reflected the latest changes to the law of the Russian Federation strengthening the authorities and concretizing the functions of Rostechnadzor in implementing the state service of safety supervision.

On November 28, the Rostechnadzor delegation visited Koeberg, the only nuclear plant operating on the African continent located in a nature reserve 40 km away from Cape Town.

In addition, the parties agreed on a list of areas of prospective cooperation, including development of regulatory documents, supervision in the course of construction of NPPs, licensing of new nuclear plant designs, training and retraining of the regulatory staff.
