In accordance with the document and under the law of the Russian Federation and Hungary, the parties will cooperate in the field of safety regulation in the peaceful use of atomic energy in principal areas such as development of the regulatory and legal framework for nuclear and radiation safety, and exchange of licensing and safety supervision experience.

"I believe that the signing of this agreement is not only an important step on the way of development of bilateral cooperation between the Hungarian and Russian regulators, but will also contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relation between our countries", Aleshin noted.

We would remind that the previous agreement on cooperation and information exchange in the field of state safety regulation in the use of atomic energy between the former Gosatomnadzor and the HAEA was signed on February 23, 2001.

The new agreement was prepared with the regard for the administrative changes that had taken place in Hungary and Russia, as well as lessons learnt from the Fukushima-Daiichi accident. The agreement provides new areas of cooperation such as regulatory assessment of performance indicators of the nuclear power plants, emergency preparedness and response, and training of the regulatory staff.
