Rostechnadzor delegation took part in the 27th U.S. NRC's RIC
During March 10 to 12, 2015, the Rostechnadzor delegation headed by Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov took part in the 27th Regulatory Information Conference organized annually by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Rockville, Maryland.
The conference was attended by over 3000 representatives of the nuclear regulatory bodies and nuclear industry fr om 30 countries. The main objectives of the RIC are to encourage the dialogue between the government, industry, international community and the public on the issues of nuclear safety and nuclear security regulation of new nuclear builds and power plants that currently operate or being decommissioned; to share information on the U.S. NRC's recommendations and questions to the applicants that arise in the licensing process; and to discuss outcomes of the research activities lately undertaken by the U.S. NRC.
The Rostechnadzor delegation attended the RIC plenary sessions wh ere the U.S. NRC Chairman and Commissioners reported on the current activities and the most important challenges the U.S. regulator faces at the moment. The Rostechnadzor delegates also took part in a number of technical sessions dedicated to the involvement of the American public in hearings of the cases in the area of nuclear safety regulation, behavior of the operating personnel in emergence situations, nuclear security regulation, risk-informed nuclear safety regulation, and operation of the reactor mechanical components of the operating nuclear plants.
