Rostechnadzor attended the International Experts’ Meeting on Assessment and Prognosis in Response to a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency

27.04.2015 The International Experts’ Meeting on Assessment and Prognosis in Response to a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency was held on April 20 to 24, 2015, in Vienna, Austria. The Rostechnadzor delegation headed by Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov attended the meeting.

The purpose of the meeting was to provide a venue for the experts to discuss issues, challenges and solutions associated with the process of assessment and prognosis in response to a nuclear or radiological emergency in connection with the implementation of the IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety.

The meeting was held in the format of opening plenary session with a report from Denis Flory, IAEA Deputy Director General, Department of Nuclear Safety and Security, and seven topical sessions, including “Assessment and Prognosis During a Nuclear Emergency”, “Assessment and Prognosis During a Radiological Emergency”, “Assessment of a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency Resulting from a Nuclear Security Event”, “Environmental Modelling and Monitoring During Nuclear and Radiological Emergencies”, ”Assessment of Food During Nuclear and Radiological Emergencies”, “Assessment and Prognosis at the International Level”, and “The Provision and Management of Technical Data to Support Assessment and Prognosis”.

The topical session “Assessment of a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency Resulting from a Nuclear Security Event” included a keynote report by Deputy Chairman Ferapontov titled “Regulatory Measures to Ensure the Continued Effectiveness of Physical Protection Systems During a Nuclear or Radiological Emergency Caused by a Nuclear Security Event”.

Each of the topical sessions comprised a panel discussion when the keynote speakers answered relevant topical questions. The event also included a poster session featuring, among others, the Rostechnadzor poster “Emergency Zones Setting in Order to Control the Spread of Contamination and for Monitoring the Contamination Levels of Vehicles, Personnel and Territories”.
