Rostechnadzor signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority
On November 19, 2015, the delegation of the Russian federation visited Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt, where in the presence of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah as-Sisi the parties signed intergovernmental Russian-Egyptian agreements on cooperation in NPP construction and operation (Sergey Kirienko, Director General of the State Corporation Rosatom signed the document for the Russian party) and on extending the export credit loan for NPP construction (Sergey Storchak, Deputy Minister of Finance, signed the document for the Russian party).
The signed documents also included the Memorandum of Understanding between Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service (Rostechnadzor) and the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) on cooperation in the field of nuclear and radiation safety in peaceful use of atomic energy.
According to the MoU, the Russian and Egyptian regulators will cooperate in the entire range of issues related to nuclear and radiation safety and security, including NPP safety regulation at all stages of the lifecycle.
The document was signed by Rostechnadzor deputy chairman Alexey Ferapontov and ENRRA deputy chairman Walid Ibrahim Zidan Mohamed.
Under the signed intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the NPP construction and operation, four units 1200 MW each are to be constructed in the territory of Egypt.
