MoU signed between Rostechnadzor and Ministry of Health of Zambia
On 6-7 December 2016, Russian delegation visited the Republic of Zambia (Lusaka) to consult with the management of the ministries concerned on development of the cooperation in peaceful use of atomic energy. The Russian delegation was also given a reception by the President of Zambia, E. Lungu, who reassured the delegates of his support to the joint project of the Nuclear Science and Technology Center in Zambia.
The visit resulted in signing of a number of documents that will underlie the further cooperation between the two countries in the field of atomic energy use, including the construction of a Nuclear Science and Technology Center with a Russian-design research reactor.
The signing ceremony was attended by R. Msiska, Secretary to the Cabinet and K. Kozhanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to the Republic of Zambia.
Among the documents signed was MoU between Rostechnadzor and the Ministry of Health of Zambia on cooperation in nuclear regulation and radiation safety in peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
That document was undersigned by Deputy Chairman of Rostechnadzor, A. Ferapontov and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, D. Mulwanda.
According to MoU, the supervisory authorities of Russia and Zambia will cooperate on the whole range of issues pertaining to regulation of nuclear safety, radiation safety and nuclear security, including safety regulation of nuclear research installations.Alongside this, the following documents were signed: MoU between ROSATOM and the Ministry of Higher Education of Zambia on cooperation in personnel training and development in nuclear power of the Republic of Zambia, MoU between ROSATOM and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services of Zambia on cooperation in improving the public acceptance of nuclear power in the Republic of Zambia (on behalf of Russia signed by Deputy CEO of ROSATOM Nikolay Spasskiy, on behalf of Zambia signed by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education О. Mgemezulu and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services G. Malama respectively), and Agreement on the Project Development Relating to the Construction of the Nuclear Research and Technology Center on the Territory of the Republic of Zambia (on behalf of Russia signed by President of Rusatom Overseas Inc. Yevgeny Pakermanov, on behalf of Zambia signed by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Higher Education О. Mgemezulu).
