Sweden’s SSM Visits Rostechnadzor HQ


IMG_2434.jpgOn June 20, 2017, Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service hosted the delegation of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (SSM). The Rostechnadzor side was headed by Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov, and the SSM delegation was headed by Deputy Director General Fredrik Hassel.

Mr. Ferapontov opened the meeting with a report on the Russian nuclear safety regulatory framework. In his turn, Mr. Hassel told about the reform and revision of the national regulations, the progress of the deep geological disposal facility for spent fuel in Sweden and areas of cooperation between SSM and various Russian organizations.

The Russian party gave a brief update on the current status of the floating power unit and its licensing process.

Rostechnadzor suggested a list of topics to be addressed at future joint meetings for consideration of SSM.

In conclusion, the parties agreed to consider a possibility of the next bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the IAEA General Conference in September 2017.
