Delegation of Rostechnadzor took part in MDEP Policy Group meeting

Delegation of Rostechnadzor took part in MDEP Policy Group meeting 15.09.2017 A delegation of Rostechnadzor led by Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov took part in the Multinational Design Evaluation Programme (MDEP) Policy Group meeting held in London on 14 September 2017.
The members discussed the last year’s work results and the further development strategy for MDEP.
Among discussion results a decision was made to develop a mechanism to maintain and transfer the knowledge accumulated within the design specific working groups to the parties concerned, as well as to leave safety issues of small modular reactors outside MDEP in the immediate future.
The agenda included a proposal of the Chinese regulator (NNSA) to establish a new working group on the HPR1000 design with participation of the P.R. China, UK and RSA, which spoke in favor of that. By doing so, the prerequisite for establishing the new design specific working group was completed and it will be launched before long.
Another significant result of the meeting was a MDEP Policy Group decision to initiate a process of taking the Argentinian regulator (ANR) aboard the Programme. ARN is expected to receive a standard application sheet, which will help to assess eligibility of the ARN entry against the MDEP membership criteria.

Rostechnadzor aside, the MDEP members are the regulatory bodies from Canada, China, Finland, France, Hungary, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States. The functions of the Technical Secretariat are invested with the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (NEA/OECD)
