OECD/NEA GD visited supervised facilities of Rostechnadzor
On 16-18 May 2018 a delegation of the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) led by DG William D. Magwood called on a few supervised facilities of Rostechnadzor as part of the visit to Russia.
On 16 May 2018 the OECD/NEA delegationvisited OJSC Baltic Shipyard in Saint Petersburg to become familiar with their activity. During the visit, the enterprise presented a report outlining the works they had completed in the making of the floating power unit Akademik Lomonosov and arranged a technical tour to the icebreaker Arktika, which is now under construction.
On 17 May 2018 the DG Magwood’s delegation visited FSUE Atomflot base in Murmansk to get acquainted with the work of Rostechnadzor’s Inspection Division for nuclear and radiation operational safety of nuclear vessels and maintenance ships, the work of overhaul shops, made a visual check of the radioactive waste treatment area, had a look at training dummies of the nuclear icebreaker central control rooms, having finalized the visit with a technical tour to the 50 Let Pobedy (Fiftieth Anniversary of Victory) nuclear icebreaker.
On 18 May 2018 OECD/NEA delegation visited Institute of Physics and Power Engineering (IPPE) in Obninsk. During the visit, the IPPE presented information on the current status and development prospects of the Russian nuclear industry and arranged a call on large physical test facilities, accelerators and the world’s first NPP museum.
Mr. Magwood esteemed high the information value of the visit to the practical application facilities of new nuclear technologies and their development center and expressed interest in further cooperation of OECD/NEA with the state corporation Rosatom and Rostechnadzor.
