Training activity for inspectors from CAESC of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan

05.07.2018 As part of a project to establish the IAEA Low Enriched Uranium (LEU) Bank in Kazakhstan, on 26-29 June 2018 in Angarsk (Irkutsk region) a training activity for the inspectors from the Committee of Atomic and Energy Supervision and Control (CAESC) of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held, which brought together the representatives of the Headquarters and Interregional Territorial Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision of Siberia and Far East of Rostechnadzor, as well as representatives of the IAEA, CAESC, JSC “International Uranium Enrichment Center” (IUEC) and JSC “Angarsk Electrolysis and Chemical Combine” (AECC).
The aim of the event was to provide Kazakh inspectors with a hands-on training course of supervisory activity in regard of LEU storages on the example of the IUEC storage located onsite the AECC.
The representatives of CAESC got acquainted with the basic provisions of the Russian legislation in the field of atomic energy use, Administrative procedures for the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service to perform its state function of supervising activities in the field of atomic energy use and requirements of certain federal rules and regulations in the field of atomic energy use.
To the conclusion, the IAEA representative expressed hope for further cooperation between Rostechnadzor and the IAEA within the project to create the IAEA LEU Bank in Kazakhstan.

The IAEA LEU Bank in the Republic of Kazakhstan was established onsite JSC «Ulba Metallurgical Plant» in Ust-Kamenogorsk in accordance with the Agreement between the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan Regarding the Establishment of the Low Enriched Uranium Bank of the International Atomic Energy Agency in the Republic of Kazakhstan of 27 August 2015.
