Rostechnadzor Delegation Takes Part in IAEA International Conference on Effective Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Systems: Working Together to Enhance Cooperation
The IAEA International Conference on Effective Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Systems: Working Together to Enhance Cooperation held from November 4 to 7, 2019, in the Hague, the Netherlands, is attended by the Rostechnadzor delegation headed by Deputy Chairman Alexey Ferapontov.
The conference is as a high-level international forum that allows the “nuclear players” to focus on the most pressing issues of safety regulation, while offering ways to resolve them that could later be adopted in the national context.
The conference programme includes opening and closing plenary sessions and topical sessions on:
• Regulating Nuclear Installations
• Regulating Radiation Sources and Medical Facilities
• Cross-Cutting Regulatory Areas
• Leadership and Management for Safety and Security
• Strengthening International Cooperation
Mr. Ferapontov made a presentation “Safety Regulation of Innovative Nuclear Facilities in the Russian Federation: Challenges and Solutions” as part of the topical session “Regulating Nuclear Installations.”
In addition, one of the Rostechnadzor representatives co-chaired the session “Cross-Cutting Regulatory Areas.” As invited speakers, the Rostechnadzor representatives made presentations “Public Communication and Involvement – Enhancement of Awareness in Regulatory Activities in the Russian Federation” and “Rostechnadzor’s Interaction on Radiation Safety and Nuclear Security with Other Regulators in the Russian Federation to Enhance Regulatory Capabilities”/
The conference was organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency and became the fifth in a series of international conferences on effective nuclear safety regulatory systems. The four previous conferences were held in Vienna, Austria, in 2016, Ottawa, Canada, in 2013, Cape Town, South Africa, in 2009, and Moscow, Russian Federation, in 2006.
