The consultations of the delegations of Russia and IAEA were held in Kaliningrad

Alexander Trembitsky, Chairman of Rostechnadzor, took part in a regular round of interagency consultations with the IAEA on the Zaporozhie NPP (ZNPP) held in Kaliningrad. The issues related to the safety of the ZNPP were discussed. The Russian delegation was led by Alexey Likhachev, Director General of State Corporation Rosatom. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation and the Federal National Guard Troops Service. The IAEA delegation headed by Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi included Karine Herviou, Deputy Director General, and experts of the Department of Safeguards and the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security. Alexander Trembitsky made a statement on overall assessment of the situation at ZNPP from the regulator’s point of view, paying special attention to the recent event of total loss of external power supply. Rostechnadzor Chairman also informed the participants on the current results of the Rostechnadzor’s supervisory activities with regard to ZNPP, licensing aspects, and on-site cooperation between the regulator’s inspectors and IAEA experts.
Alexander Trembitsky and Karine Herviou had a talk on the margins of the consultations to discuss issues of cooperation between Rostechnadzor and the IAEA in preparing for the full-scale IRRS mission to Russia, which is scheduled for the 4th quarter of 2026.
